How much food ends up in your garbage bin at the end of each week? Even if you recycle it into the compost bin or worm farm, are you still wasting more than you should?
Council waste audits show that NSW households alone generate 800,000 tonnes of food waste each year. This means $2.5 billion worth of food (about $1,000 a household) is thrown away each year.
Love Food Hate Waste is a campaign started in the UK two years ago and launched this week by the NSW Government to help households and businesses reduce food waste and the methane caused when it ends up as landfill.
The campaign highlights simple things we can all do to waste less food, including buying only what we need, preparing and cooking the correct amounts and storing food items properly.
